Colonoscopy Prep
Are you due for a colonoscopy? Bowel health is nothing to take lightly and neither is your preparation for this invasive but sometimes necessary precautionary procedure. What is the difference between the standard medical protocol and the natural protocol for colonoscopy prep? We’ve outlined both below so you can make an educated choice about how you would like to prepare and why we recommend the natural option.
The Standard Medical Protocol
The standard medical preparation for a Colonoscopy is to drink liters of a chemical laxative and purge the contents of the colon with violent diarrhea. According to Joseph Fiorito, MD, this preparation is known to put a strain on the kidneys and be potentially fatal to the elderly and other at-risk patients. The most common adverse reactions to this chemical preparation are abdominal distension, anal discomfort, thirst, nausea, abdominal pain, sleep disorder, rigors, hunger, malaise, vomiting, and dizziness. Dehydration is also common with this protocol, usually resulting from an electrolyte imbalance. Now more and more progressive doctors are recommending Colon Hydrotherapy is an excellent alternative.
alternative preparation
There are no chemical laxatives involved. We use a series of Colon Hydrotherapy sessions together with a natural oxygen based intestinal cleanser to clean the colon. It is a safe, less harmful way to completely detoxify the colon.
They must be completed over the two days leading up to, as well as the day of your Colonoscopy. If this is absolutely not possible, book treatment for the day of, book as close to the procedure as possible. the next page is the complete Natural Alternative Protocol and must be followed exactly to ensure your colon is properly cleaned and prepared for your Colonoscopy.
Who can have this natural Colonoscopy Preparation alternative?
Anyone, except people who have contraindications for Colon Hydrotherapy. These are listed in full on our website. If you are unsure, please give us a call.
If you qualify, please refer to the 3 day protocol outlined below which also can be use as a colonic prep as well.
This protocol is completed over a three-day period. Colon Hydrotherapy sessions are scheduled for three consecutive days leading up to the procedure, with the last session being done the morning of the Colonoscopy.
DAY 1
Upon rising, slowly drink one litre of warm filtered water with the juice of half a lemon. Take two Oxy Powder capsules. Drink a cup of hot herbal tea then attend to your first Colon Hydrotherapy session.
Eat small meat-free, wheat-free, and dairy-free soups and smoothies throughout the day. Add one teaspoon of ground golden flax meal to smoothies. At midday, take two more Oxy Powder capsules on an empty stomach, with a cup of warm lemon water. Drink as much hot caffeine-free herbal tea as you want, (like mint, chamomile, dandelion, or others that are caffeine free) aiming for at least one (1) litre to stay hydrated and soothe the stomach. Drink a minimum of two litres of filtered water per day at room temperature or warmer. Before bed, take four Oxy Powder capsules with a cup of warm lemon water. Use a heat pack to keep the stomach warm and soothed.
DAY 2
Upon rising, drink one litre of warm filtered water with the juice of one half of a lemon. If bowel release is not loose and large, take five Oxy-Powder capsules. If it is big diarrhea that fills the toilet bowl, take only two. In either case, proceed to the second CHT session. Remember, waste is moving down from the small intestine into the large intestine for removal. There’s always more!
Only consume clear liquids all day: herbal tea and clear broth made from simmered vegetables or clear chicken broth. Add miso to support the gut’s friendly flora. You may also drink vitamin C powder in water to keep electrolytes in balance and energy even. This is widely available in health food stores. Drink a minimum of two litres of filtered water per day at room temperature; adding fresh lemon or lime is helpful. At midday take two Oxy-Powder capsules with warm water. Before retiring, take four Oxy-Powder capsules, unless the diarrhoea is uncontrollable. In that case, just take two more.
SPECIAL NOTE: if diarrhoea is not present, you may need to reschedule the colonoscopy procedure and have additional CHT sessions to clear the bowel. This happens in rare cases.
DAY 3
Schedule the final CHT session for the first thing in the morning, then travel directly to the hospital or colonoscopy clinic for the colonoscopy procedure. Remember that you must not eat or drink anything on this morning, simply brush your teeth.
It is important to be very gentle with the bowel after the colonoscopy. It takes time and patience for the body to recover from this. We suggest you return to the DAY 1 program of simple, soft foods for at least two days so that the bowel may return to normal function. If there has been no bowel movement for forty-eight hours after the colonoscopy, we recommend another colon hydrotherapy session to normalise the bowel function and help cleanse the anaesthesia from the body. This is contra-indicated if a polyp was removed or other surgical procedure was performed.
